About Angela
Hey! I'm the creator of The Ember Within. I am passionate about this work and helping others because I believe that everything happens to us for a reason (if we so choose). Moving through my own journey and unique challenges has equipped me with a lot of incredibly transformative tools and expertise that I love sharing and now fuels me with fulfilment, purpose and meaning. I know how difficult it can be to reprogram our emotional, physical and mental patterns.
So many wonderful people and spaces have helped me along my healing journey, and I am committed to doing the same for others. Even though 'the work' of looking at ourselves can feel like an isolating, inward journey, at the end of the day, we all need support, belonging, community and Love around us. No one should feel alone in their experience. Let's walk each other home.
My Story
My parents are from Hong Kong, but I was born in the US and raised in New Zealand. I'm a so-called International School kid. I've lived in many places, including London, New York, Spain and Boston. My homes are currently Cape Town and Amsterdam. I love places with wild, untamed nature and open, warm people.

My mother was never taught to regulate her emotions, and that really impacted my childhood. I wasn't aware of my 'trauma' until my late 20s, when my construct of life came crashing down. Whilst on the outside, I was confident, had achieved a lot academically, was incredibly talented with many hobbies, had travelled the world and had lots of fun adventures, I was held back by the unhealed parts of me that were hot-headed, defensive, and completely disconnected from my body and emotions. I believed I couldn't be wrong or I would be punished. I believed that connection and Love weren't safe. And I believed that to survive, I had to live in my head. My anger protected a younger me from intense hurt and feeling small, and it came out in a sense of superiority, aggression and hostility. I often acted selfishly and I didn't understand how to truly connect with others. I ran from relationship to relationship, pushing people away as soon as they got close. I couldn't hold down a job, and I escaped through drugs, dating and partying. I eventually ended up in a serious drug addiction, a failed marriage, a confused purposelessness in my corporate career and an overwhelming feeling that had been there the whole time: that I was fundamentally broken.

Everything came to a head. I began my healing journey and came to learn who I really was. An artist, a deep-feeler, highly sensitive, neurodivergent, a sensual wild woman. I learnt to manage all of these unique needs of mine, learning and questioning their labels too - ADHD, rumination, emotional extremes, BPD, overstimulation, disorganised attachment. Most importantly, I learnt how to help others do the same. I learnt how to release trauma and tension from the nervous system through breathwork, movement and other somatic practices, as well as how to guide people through these practices to unlock their own sense of felt-safety, stop living out of their heads, connect with their intuition and regain trust with their bodies. I learnt the foundations of authentic relating, vulnerability and compassion, as well as how to hold powerful spaces for this to happen. I became a yoga teacher, driven by my love for meditation, asana and yoga philosophy. I love weaving yoga, fascial manoeuvres, conscious dance (inspired by 5Rhythms) and bodywork together. I also learnt to work with alchemising emotions in dance and unique self-expression. I am fascinated by the world of tantra, and one of my passions is couples work: polarity, intimacy and relationships. I often draw upon exercises from acting schools to help others explore their voice, awareness, movement and emotions.
Balance is important. Feeling and processing is just as important as taking inspired action. This is where coaching comes in. Coaching techniques and leadership development frameworks can put our vision of who we want to become into motion. What matters more than understanding ourselves is getting out of our own way and actually taking the right steps for us, to do the things we need to do to thrive and succeed. Putting the theory into practice. How do we actually make our dreams a reality? How do we actually build the habits in our daily lives to set us up for the life that we want? I'm grateful to draw from my training from the University Cambridge and as a management consultant to support others in crystallising abstract concepts and an overload of information into clarity and action.

If my story resonates with you and you're committed to doing the work, then please get in touch.
Let's organise a free call to get to know each other, because I believe it takes seeing and hearing a person to actually see if we're a match.
